I got these new running shoes for a reason, I should go jogging like I planned to! What do you mean it's too late for beach season?

Also the new Voltron on Netflix is rad as heck, Gun and I watched it and like it, go check it out.

Today's News:

Change is good! Yeah, so that's how Theira's species does things... she didn't used to have just two legs, either. There's some ins and outs to it, but we'll have to explain them as we go so as not to give everything away at once.

Psu's goin' away for a week, but there'll still be a guest update. It'll be canon and everything!

- Gunwild

This next week I'm taking my first "actual vacation" in a great number of years. Working on Art has meant I spent all my time at home, but home has become my office. This week, I'm gonna be away from the office. I hope to get some relaxing done. I'll probably tweet about it! But if you already follow my twitter (on the left), you'll know I'm just as likely to retweet news articles that agree with my distinct political point of view. You have been warned.

Anyway my bags are packed. I've got more game consoles and reading material than I even use when I'm at home coming with me. It's gonna be fun, I'll keep in touch.

Today's News:

Psu's vacation this week precluded drawing a new page, but here's one arted up by our friend Brellom. I don't think this is going to be a very useful tactic for Maddy, though...

For my birthday my grandmother bought me Ghostbusters: Total Containment, which contains the comics that are my favorite Ghostbusters continuation ever written (and make the whole idea of a movie reboot feel uninteresting to me, so I wanna avoid that whole minefield). Definitely recommend it. I don't get a lot of comics hardcovers (because they cost more), but this one's lovely - it's even got artwork on the inside of the cover and stuff. I hope I can get it signed one day.

- Gunwild

As an assistant, I’m always happy to help Cassiopeia Quinn by doing any colour flats for Psu whenever necessary, but it was an absolute honor to do an ENTIRE guest page all by myself! But gosh… making comics is hard work… you should all appreciate Psu and Gun’s hard work approximately 137 more times than you already do!

Today's News:

Most people who try to write stuff will, from time to time, check out something and go "I wish I'd written that!" because they think they could have done it better.

In the case of Voltron: Legendary Defender on Netflix, I wish I'd written it because it's just so good. It's a funny actiony sci-fi story I wish I'd had around as a kid. "I'm a leg!" Sublime. Watch it!

- Gunwild

I had a really great vacation guys. I'd love to tell you all about it. But it's 4am here and I'm pretty tired. You can scroll through my Twitter for various vacation pictures from a couple weeks ago, (if you can survive my political news links...)

Today's News:

Last week Psu and I cooked up a guest comic for Miss Melee. You should read Miss Melee, even though our installment isn't up yet! And when you're done, just keep reloading the website until you see our page appear. Of course, you should also be reloading the Cassiopeia Quinn site at the time, too! So, make sure you have two monitors, that's all I'm saying.

I hope we can sell Nizka's shirts one day, among the other ideas we've had for merchandise. They're all pretty good ideas, or at least I think so... you guys would buy 'em to help some webcomic folks out, right? Right?!

- Gunwild

Sorry for the delay in finishing the colors on this page.

In unrelated matters, when I see the Amazon Prime Day sale or whatever they're calling it, I think a lot of the people I know were upset there wasn't much gear or gaming stuff. I'd liked to have seen some of that too myself, but I have to admit I was pretty much scrolling the kitchen wares section of which there were a number of interesting items. Interesting to me anyway.

I find myself feeling really old when I start looking at sets of Tupperware with divided sections, and getting kinda excited. I've starting to think of things like, "If I make all my food on Sunday and slip it into these containers I can feast for a week!" And then, WOW I guess I never thought I'd be making comics about space babes AND portioning my week of food. Oh well. Anyone know any good recipies?

Today's News:

Who do you think is behind the door, patient readers? I'm kinda interested in knowing... so here's a poll featuring the first guesses I've heard! Will your guess prove right?! Well, I dunno. I don't know what your guess is if you didn't do the poll yet, do I?

(Oh yeah, and I'd like to assure every that despite the political stuff you might notice on my Twitter this week, Cassiopeia Quinn will not be indulging in any election satire. Mostly because I'm not funny. Also because this comic's here to entertain, not make a buncha important social statements. Uh, except maybe the statement that owning a spaceship might be cool.)

So hey, linking Miss Melee last update (our guest page for them should be up in the coming week) apparently gave them a cool little traffic boost. I appreciate that you guys took an interest, I hope you enjoyed it, 'cause I do! Hm, what should I do with this newfound power? I already recommended Everblue, right? What about Now I Can't Lose? Like I've said before, webcomics are kinda punk rock, and we've gotta plug each other, because it's not like anyone else is gonna do it.

I don't really have a lot of news about my old cat that I should share, but she's been on my mind a lot and we've been really worried.

Today's News:

Our Miss Melee guest shot is up! Go enjoy it and that whole comic, please!

So, last week I went stargazing with a proper chart and optics and stuff, and saw the Andromeda galaxy (Of Mass Effect fame!) for the first time. It was really cool and interesting. Then, on the walk home, because it was so dark and I was in the mountains and I idiotically shut my light off once I could see my destination... I fell in a ditch full of rocks.

To make a long story short, I went on a trip, sprained both wrists, and now hate nature. But since that my fingers are mostly moving properly again, I've decided to finally play Mass Effect 3, and holy crap, a family member bought me the game used on 360 for like five bucks, which is great, right? But there's almost fifty dollars worth of story DLC. I'm going to have to wait until the gaming budget allows for that kind of expenditure to break it open. I've only heard good things about that content, so I can't skip it! Uh, right? ME fans, what say you?

Speaking of good things (and things tangentially involving stargazing), if you're not much of a comic reader but might like to be, then I wanna suggest checking out the recently-released Wonder Woman #2 by Rucka and Sharp. It is, at last, Greg Rucka writing the Wonder Woman: Year One story he's had in mind forever, and while I can't promise it'll become as character-defining as Batman: Year One, I can say it's excellent comics and worth the cover price. That storyline will be running in alternating issues, and if it's as good as the inaugural one, you'll probably catch me praising it again. Like, if you don't buy it now, when the trade comes out, I'll probably be telling everyone to get that. But why wait? You don't even have to track down a comic store (though I think you should). You can purchase it digitally here.

- Gunwild

If you've been following the comic, you must've noticed the staggered updates for the last two weeks. And it's entirely because I can be an emotional and sentimental wreck. Let me explain what happened. So a couple weeks ago, I get a text message from my dad saying that our Cat is unwell. Like... she's in a really bad state. So I went ahead and visited, and I hadn't really realized how bad of a state she was in. My dad omitted some details from his message. She'd been missing for a couple days. When they got her back home, she couldn't walk anymore. She wasn't eating, and she was hardly moving.

So then I'm thinking, that's it. This is the last time I get to see her. I'd been dreading it all year really, she was pretty old. 16 years is old for an outdoors cat. I spend the evening with her, trying to get her to eat. I clean up her fur and her poop and so on. I just want nothing more than for her to be comfortable and unafraid. But then, I have to go back to my apartment cause I gotta get work done. I was depressed and all, but I thought I was ready to say goodbye.

I don't think me or my dad knew what to do. I think I would have called the vet right away. My dad did not, I'll get to the reason why a bit later. For the next two weeks I would occasionally visit the old home and visit the cat. I'd check up on her, encourage her to eat, etc. I'd stay with her and she'd purr happily enough whenever I was around. But whenever I'd eventually have to leave, I knew she'd spend the nights alone. Maybe she was scared. She was definitely hurting. And she was all I could think about most nights. I took to reading and my usual past time of following the news. I have to say watching American politics probably didn't help my mood much...

I'm a quiet type of person, I think. I don't show affection easily. But I tend to have a strong affinity for cats. They seem to like me back. My brother's cats, my roomates' cats, my Dungeon Master's cat when we played RPGs, cats and I tend to get along. I like to think it's a combination of knowing how to give them attention AND distance. And they're always welcome on my belly, except when they like to knock away whatever thing I'm reading.

Our Cat was more or less abandoned 16 years ago by a family member who stayed with us, before having a bit of a breakdown and having to leave. I won't get into details but one of the things they did while with us, was to suddenly adopt a little kitten. When my family member had to go, they left this poor little kitty with us. My dad just called her Cat. And so did I. And that became her name.

To be frank, she must've been a normal little cat. Prone to doing dumb things like clawing their way up your leg and being really adorable about it. Or hiding on whatever spot you were sitting on, just cause it was warm. Having little flecks of brown in her green eyes. The cat would be my oldest and most consistent friend, and she was always happy to see me. And so here we are and she was, hurting for weeks, lying in a makeshift bed my dad set up where she could reach her food and use the kitty litter without walking.

He hadn't called the vet yet, cause he was sure what the vet would say. If we brought her to the vet, that would almost certainly be the last of it. So we nursed her as much as we could, and though she seemed to be responsive and purring, she wasn't getting better. My dad, I think, took a little longer than I did to come to the necessary conclusion. We both figured that was that, and set up an appointment for last Saturday.

On Friday, I did what I could of the comic page. There was no way I was finishing it but I could get enough of it done that I could send it out to my assistant to flat. After that, I went home and got to spend one more night with the cat. And ya know what? Her appetite seemed to come back! She was more responsive than she'd been all week. She wasn't really moving but it was the first time I thought maybe she COULD move. Maybe it was just the fact that it was so close, but I was getting my hopes up.

I spent the last day carrying her around. She seemed to be purring and content at times, scared and tired at others. I fed her, her favorite snack of Vienna sausages. (I used to share those with her when I cooked at home after college.) By morning, I had begun to think, maybe the vet would have some good news. If the vet could say, she could walk again, or even if she would just limp for the rest of her life, even if would only be a few months or a year, I knew I was ready to take care of her for however long that was. I modified the carrying litter, unscrewing the top off and cushioned the bottom and put her in to take her on our last car ride together.

The vet was pretty clear there wasn't any realistic option for getting a miraculous recovery. We'd have to say goodbye then and there. It was the last thing I wanted for her, to be scared in some strange place at her end. But no one wanted her to hurt anymore. At the very least I could be there, so that she wasn't alone. I actually held her head in my hands and kept on petting her as the lights went out. I hoped she wasn't afraid. I hope she didn't dislike me for that. But mostly I hope she's resting now.

She'd been a good friend for 16 years, 9 months, and 4 days. (The vet records said so.) I left a note with her, thanking her for that. I'm happy to have had a Cat.

In one of the best Humble Bundles ever, we've got such creators as Kurt Busiek, Cary Nord, Peter David, Pop Mhan, Adam Hughes, Terry Dodson... really too many of my favorites to name. And you can give however much you want for all these DRM-free comics, and support charity at the same time. So uh, please do!

(And remember to read that Miss Melee guest comic we did if you missed it!)

P.S. I spent some time this morning reading the comments from last week's comic. And thank you all for writing. Thank you all for reading about what happened to my cat and sharing your condolences. I replied to a few of them, I'm sorry if it's not so elegant a response to your responses. I think we'll be okay though. Empathy shows we can still feel, and still remember our friends.

Today's News:

I asked a lot of insane and difficult things of Psu on this page, but I think you'll agree it came out looking nice. My favorite panel is the first, 'cause there're so many little things going on with the cute lil' aliens.

In fact, what the heck, http://www.cassiopeiaquinn.com//uploads/1471788253-bigtrouble - bigpanel1.png">see it in higher res here to enjoy them.

Also, I'm glad we got to bring Dr. Botz back. http://www.cassiopeiaquinn.com//comic/robot-domination-part-1">That was a while in coming.

- Gunwild

I think I said to Gunwild, when I first saw this page, something akin to, "Okay, I need to come up with a new alien race, do multiple cityscape shots crowded with actors, and at least a couple different sets when you include the president's room. We can't do this."

But we did.

Hey, My Hero Academia is pretty cool, isn't it? Especially that frog-girl superhero, Tsuyu, who can fight with her tongue. I bring this up for no reason at all...

A combination of things that are happening in real life set me off last week, leading me to get very angry. Then very sad. And then rather depressed and anxious for the whole time. I don't want to go into the details, but I owe you guys at least that much to say that missing last week was unnecessary. And I'm still getting anxious reverberations from it.

This week though I appear to be back on the wagon. Drawing is going well, and even sketches are feeling pretty killer. What hasn't gotten better though are my gaming abilities. I'm pretty sure my Overwatch competitive ranking is going to be no where near as good as it was in Season 1. I managed a very respectable 62, thank you very much. Anyway it's not important. Getting good sketches, that's better than getting Golden Guns. (But only a little better.)

I don't have much news type news this week. I'm going to be moving out of my apartment, so I guess that's news! I like everything here but there should be some advantages to my "new" digs and more affordable living.

Today's News:

The Cassiopeia Quinn Patreon has launched!

Hey, folks! Have I mentioned lately how great you are? How insightful your comments have been? How nice that shirt you're wearing looks? No?

Okay, the truth is, I'm buttering you up because we need something from you. See, we love making Cassiopeia Quinn. And I do mean love it. We've been very fortunate, and also worked very hard to make it this far.

It's just, uh, the comic is quite time-consuming - you already know we had to cut back to one update a week to keep up. And even then, there are struggles for all of us (including Brellom, who helps with colors around these parts) to make the schedule and do a good job. It doesn't help that there are ever-increasing financial pressures in all our lives that the comic has sometimes been, uh, the opposite of helpful with, since it's so much work.

In an attempt to fix this, and let us keep bringing you Cassiopeia Quinn, we're doing like so many other great webcomics out there (for instance, our idols and mentors at The Rock Cocks) and launching a Patreon. What's that mean? Well, it's not just a tip jar - we want to give you rewards if you throw some money in to let us keep the comic going. Page previews, for instance. A look at concept art you can't see anywhere else. Stories and sketches we haven't found a way to release yet. That kind of thing. If it takes off, we'd like to start producing some original content for Patrons only, too - some sexy pinups of the cast, for instance. Oh, yes. Mmhmm.

Anyway, it's really cool stuff we're offering anyone who contributes, and to show we mean business, the first thing we're sharing is a look at a Cassiopeia Quinn sketch by Adam Warren, who brings you Empowered. You can check it out now, no cover charge, just for taking a look at our Patreon page. It's important to give you an idea of the kind of stuff we'll be doing.

The comic itself is always going to remain free, obviously. That's why we do what we do. But if you dig it enough to help us keep it comin', we aim to reward you. Check it out! You'll be doing us a big favor.

- Gunwild

Not gonna lie, I hate the news recently. And I'm scared all the time. And today's news looks especially terrible. I'm currently nervous and anxious right now cause starting today I'm going to be moving from my apartment. And there are some unknown things coming up. I don't know if I like where I'm at, but I'm glad I get to do a comic and just work through it for now.

Today's News:

The http://www.cassiopeiaquinn.com//cast">Cast page has been updated.

Our friends at Miss Melee gave us this lovely guest comic! We'll resume with a normal update next time, so you can find out exactly why the Lord Admiral's fist was getting so clenchy, but we had to run this, didn't we? Look at the cute yawning Maddy! Look at her! Then check out Miss Melee if you haven't yet, although I keep telling every I meet to do so.

Speaking of people giving us nice things... as I write this, the Cassiopeia Quinn Patreon is less than fifteen bucks from unlocking those monthly (and sexy) pinups by Psu! In fact, it's already passed the goal for that Interview story we've wanted a way to release basically since the first comic came out - it'll be available next month! Yes,  even to non-Patrons, as promised. We'll do a post about it when it's time. And then we'll have to add another milestone goal... we've got some ideas, but what would you guys like to see?

The aid of you nice folks who kicked in is granting necessary time and money to sustain the comic, so I want to thank all 63 people who've joined us, and I hope you're enjoying the goodies we're giving back. I just know you're gonna push us over the top on those pinups soon - and if anyone reading this goes "Ah, it's a good time to join, if those are coming!" (you're right) then make sure to check out the posts we've already made for other cool stuff.

Oh, and remember... whether you can throw in some money or not, it means a lot to us simply that you're a reader.

Thanks for being here for the comic, guys.

- Gunwild

Psu's status report, I have now successfully moved. There's still this big issue of having way more books than I reasonably know what to do with. I'm starting to think of them as a hassle, collectively they take up the most space out of any one other thing I own and that includes furniture and mattress. It's really too much and absolutely has proven more trouble than it's worth. While I like the idea of a collection, a collection is harder to maintain than the entertainment value of having them around.

Ultimately, I figure I'll re-read maybe one or two percent of this total collection that takes up so much wall space. And in the future more of my reading will definitely be on the new digital formats. While there's less physical pleasure in reading these things digitally, it's going to be much easier to move a laptop than it is to move hundreds of comics along with appropriate shelves and storage.

First world problems, amirite?

On the plus side, I've got a brand new bright red couch. It's not the most comfortable, in retrospect I'd like one with a head rest. But it was one I could afford, much thanks to your support. It is a nice thing to have finally gotten one of my own, and certainly makes popcorn and movies much better.

Business aside, I wanna mention that for no reason that I can discern, Road House was trending on Twitter this morning. That's as good a reason as any to urge everyone to go watch Road House, among the most delightful, entertaining films ever made. Watch the movie! Get the Rifftrax! Learn its lessons well, like "pain don't hurt," and when it's the right time to be nice versus when it's the right time to kill a man with your bare hands. Truly a message as important today as it ever was.

I don't have a great deal to add here. I think I'd like Toyn's table over here, it's a very nice table but it seems like something that'd get stains on it pretty easily. Unrelated to that, I'm greatful the new Patreon is going well. I'm working on art right now and want to do some stuff for inktober. I've still got to move thingies but am now settling into some kind of awkward groove here. I'm buying home-y stuff like a new doorbell. I haven't gotten to play nearly as much Destiny as I would like, but maybe that's a good thing. I've been marathoning the old web series Red Versus Blue on Netflix.

Hm. I think she may have a suspicion about who sent that, despite what I'm sure was a heroic attempt at obfuscation.

I read the first book of the Assassin's Creed: Last Descendants series on a train ride, and it was pretty darn good. Sort of broke the franchise mold, in that it doesn't spend much time actually following an Assassin around and seeing what they get up to. Would recommend for my fellow marks for all things Assassin's Creed.

I didn't really mention that we were going to NYCC because for the most part we went as fans. But I like to think I made some really good business contacts when we were out there. I also met a couple of my art heroes, and generally speaking I had a really amazing time. In no small part thanks to going with a friend and having a hotel, it made a lot of the waiting much more bearable. I had almost decided not to go, but having met Alessandro Barbucci made everything worth it.

I don't think either Gunwild or I are willing to do tables, it's just not really my speed. But I definitely changed my mind about never going to comic-cons again. I thought I grew out of it but there's always more people to meet and see. And then of course there's New York pizza.

Happy Halloween, reader-types! Remember to share your candy, some chills – and of course, the url to Cassiopeia Quinn! Yes, that's an appropriate treat. Why wouldn't it be?

There's some extra Halloweeny goodness to show and tell today. First thing is a pinup by our own Psu – normally you've got to join our Patreon to get access to those, but this one's a free bonus for the Miss Melee team. It's of Maddy dressed as the heroine of their comic. And then, over at Miss Melee, you can get a load of their title character dressed as our title character. Neat, right?

Have an awesome time tonight. Even if you're steering clear of direct festivities, check if something holiday-themed is on TV or Netflix or whatever... just enjoy scary stories, both classic and newer. My philosophy is that being afraid once in a while on purpose probably helps you deal with it in general.

I don't like the idea of politicizing this silly comic. That wouldn't be a great fit, what with its hologram cat and jellybean-people. I try to avoid even going so far as putting satire in it (because, as I always say, I'm terrible at stuff like that). All I wanna tell you, straight out, is that if you live in the U.S., you should really vote. It's important!

Yep, I'm taking the radical political stance, here and now, that you should be participating in democracy if you can. Gonna put that out there, come what may. I'm so brave!

Anyway, I think noted Athenian sci-fi author and pro wrestler Plato covered this: "The price good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men."

This last month has been characterized by lots of things that needed fixing. Whether it was internet, the toilet, a leak in the ceiling, and just last week my computer's main drive pretty much crashing requiring a complete reinstall of Windows and everything else. Thankfully I keep almost all my stuff on the cloud and it was relatively easy to recover. But October, apart from the really wonderful time at Comic-Con has been tons of minor stressors adding up.

Still, it's good to have yet another page out. I'll see ya with the next one.
